The site was originally established as a Girl Scout campsite in 1947 and converted into a private eco-retreat space in 1972, named in honor of an indigenous word meaning "happy river."

WebChallenging course in natural beauty setting with a friendly, accommodative staff. Played at least 7 different golf courses and we liked or loved all but two of the courses. Old Corkscrew is a beautiful course in the setting of the wonderful, natural SW Fl landscape & habitat. It is also the most difficult of all the courses we played.
